Speedmaster super racing, the first watch to feature the omega spirate™ tuning system

From record-breaking scuba dives to moon landings, OMEGA’s legacy is tied to the scientific and technological revolutions of mankind. This year, another achievement was introduced by the renowned watchmaker: the Speedmaster Super Racing watch’s Spirate™ fine-tuning system.

The Speedmaster Super Racing was the first model to feature the OMEGA Spirate™ tuning system. This is a technical breakthrough, a decade after OMEGA unveiled its anti-magnetic masterpiece in 2013. This new system is detailed through the sapphire crystal on the case back.

Speed-style minute markers at the dial bezel. Black ceramic bezel with signature tachymeter scale, gold enamel with “grand feu” technology. This gold-tone was used on the 2013 Seamaster Aqua Terra >15,000 GAUSS model and covers the seconds and counterhands of this watch. The honeycomb dial, inspired by a prototype watch capable of operating in magnetic fields as strong as 160,000 GAUSS, is now on display at the OMEGA Museum.

Driving the Speedmaster Super Racing is the superb OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer 9920 movement, certified at the highest level in the industry by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS). In addition to the inherent METAS certifications, this new Spirate™ system can achieve an accuracy of 0/+2 seconds per day. The black indexes are diamond-polished and chamfered, then coated with new Super-LumiNova for a unique golden glow.

At 6 o’clock, the number “10” bears the signature font of the Speedmaster line, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of OMEGA’s launch of a watch that is resistant to more than 15,000 GAUSS magnetism. The new Speedmaster Super Racing watch comes with a steel band and a black-gold striped sport NATO band. Speedmaster Super Racing comes in a black honeycomb patterned box with gold thread. Included inside is a convenient strap-changing tool.

The hairspring is the most complicated part of a mechanical watch. So building the Spirate™ system is a challenge that breaks the boundaries. For that reason, OMEGA is determined to make the most of this important technical advance, and the Spirate™ system will be incorporated into other brand movements in the future.
