To create prototype watches, precise manufacturing requirements are required. Over time, these models have become iconic.
The latest Rolex watches in 2023
An icon that has stood the test of time
The iconic style and technical performance of the Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona have cemented its iconic status, helping the watch’s reputation go beyond the racing circuit.
To mark the watch’s 60th anniversary, Rolex made sure the legend lives on by bringing the entire line back, with precision to the case, dial, and movement. The many tweaks and improvements are a reminder that the pursuit of excellence is a race without a finish line.
Update display
The watch face has a new display balance with the hour markers and counter ring resized and styled. The subtle combination of colors and finishes accentuates the contrast between the dial and counters and/or counter rings, providing visual harmony, even with a modern look. then for the Cosmograph Daytona watch face.
Redesigned shell
Elegant lines of light reflect off the edges of the redesigned watch case. On versions with a ceramic Cerachrom bezel, the bezel is surrounded by the same metal as the case.
950 platinum and transparent back cover
On the 950 platinum version, identified by its icy blue dial, the 18 ct yellow gold oscillator is visible through the transparent case back – a first in the collection. Oyster Perpetual set.
Platinum, considered the most precious metal, stands out for its unique luminosity. This rare metal is one of the densest and most difficult to work with, noted for its exceptional resistance to corrosion. Rolex uses only 950 platinum – an alloy consisting of 950‰ platinum and a certain amount of ruthenium, which is finished in-house.
Caliber 4131
The Cosmograph Daytona is powered by caliber 4131. This new chronograph movement, entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex, is an improvement on the caliber 4130. Launched in 2023, it incorporates several major innovations that have not yet been achieved. Rolex has brought in its movements, including a Chronergy escapement to reduce energy consumption (one of its prominent advantages); a Paraflex shock absorber to protect the heart of the movement; and an optimized ball bearing for enhanced self-winding.
This caliber brings a new aesthetic to the brand: the exclusive Rolex Côtes de Genève-styled oscilloscope and decoration on the bridges – an expression of the iconic effect trait in traditional Swiss watchmaking.
Perpetual watch 1908
The new look of excellence
Elegant, classic, and contemporary, the 1908 Perpetual keeps Rolex’s long-standing spirit of innovation alive and well. Inheriting the brand’s historic codes and countless watchmaking innovations, this model marks a new milestone in the brand’s pursuit of excellence. The concept and creation of this new model testify to the comprehensive expertise of the workshop.
Inspired by the Oyster Perpetual of 1931, this all-new model heralds the arrival of the Perpetual collection, which reinterprets the traditional wristwatch through the avant-garde Rolex lens. ‘1908’ refers to the date the trademark ‘Rolex’ was officially registered in Switzerland.
Promising outstanding performance, 1908 has carved out a niche for itself: as a Rolex model imbued with the quintessence of tradition yet exuding modernity.
Exquisite styling
With the numerals 3, 9, 12, and small seconds hand at 6 o’clock, 1908 recalls the Oyster Perpetual style of 1931, while at the same time providing a modern look.
Transparent back cover
Crafted in 18 ct yellow or white gold, this ultra-thin case features a transparent case-back that allows for a closer look at the movement.
New movement – caliber 7140
To operate 1908, Rolex watch engineers developed caliber 7140 – a completely new self-winding movement, with two central hands and a small seconds hand at 6 o’clock. Five patent applications have been filed for this fragile movement, developed and manufactured entirely by Rolex.
Equipped with a Syloxi hairspring, a Chronergy escapement, and a Paraflex shock absorber, the movement guarantees a power reserve of approximately 66 hours and offers outstanding precision performance (only –2/+2 seconds deviation per hour). day).
To thin the watch, the Rolex team reduced the thickness of the case to a third of that of the watches in the Oyster Perpetual collection without sacrificing the performance of the movement. Caliber is designed to meet the rigorous requirements of accuracy and reliability under the Superlative Chronometer certification standard. Creating a thinner case requires the development of innovative engineering solutions, such as proficiency in oscillator assembly.
Dualclasp
Crafted in 18 ct white or yellow gold, the new Dualclasp buckle offers greater wearing comfort as it adapts to the shape of the wrist. Consists of two symmetrically folded blades, which make it easy to operate the opening and closing mechanism, and ensure the secure closure of the alligator leather strap.
Mastering the lightness, serenity
Lightweight yet sturdy, the new Oyster Perpetual Yacht–Master 42 crafted from Titanium RLX is the ally of freedom lovers. This model offers outstanding performance, especially suited to the demands and pressures of competitive regattas, it brings watchmaking excellence to the service of sporting achievement.
The Yacht-Master 42 is the second RLX titanium watch released by Rolex after the Oyster Perpetual Deepsea Challenge, affirming that lightness is a quality to be valued.
Titanium RLX
The first appearance of titanium RLX was on the Yacht-Master product line. This Rolex-selected Grade 5 titanium alloy is an exceptionally light metal and is renowned for its high mechanical strength and resistance to corrosion. Its use for the case and strap has reduced the weight of the watch by about a third compared to a similar watch in steel. Titanium RLX is complex to work with and requires special manufacturing processes.
Technical matte coating
The combination of the shiny effect and the technical gloss finish is a testament to the brand’s excellent peel technique. Taken together, they create a subtle blend of texture and light, highlighting the sparkling polished surface of the winding crown guard and the high gloss on the upper edges of the lugs, in contrast with a technical matte finish – markedly embossed – on the case and band.
Oyster Strap
The Oyster bracelet of the new Yacht-Master 42 version is also made of RLX titanium. It has a technical matte finish on the edges of the joint and on the edges of the Oysterlock safety cover. It is also equipped with a convenient Easylink extension link, making it easy for the wearer to adjust the strap length by about 5mm. The strap also features a patented ceramic spacer to enhance wrist flexibility and prolong the life of the strap.
