The classic watch has been updated by Cartier with a precious jewel-like look and is easily layered with the brand’s other iconic fine jewelry pieces.
In 2023, Cartier reinvents the look of the baignoire watch line
At the Watches & Wonder 2023 event, jewelry brand Cartier has just unveiled the latest models of watches. The presentation from Cartier was of great interest to watch lovers, especially as it was the brand’s first presentation after becoming the second highest-grossing luxury watch manufacturer globally (in November 2022, Cartier overtakes Omega in terms of total watch sales).
Cartier’s iconic watch lines are introduced with new models one after another. Tank, Ballon Bleu, Panthère, Santos de Cartier and Santos-Dumont… However, the women’s watch line that should be most noticeable this season is the Baignoire line. Because Cartier has temporarily left Baignoire open.
Baignoire is inspired by the oval shape of the bathtub. The small and beautiful design is extremely graceful on the wrist of the wearer, whether male or female. This model also conveys the retro beauty of the 1950s – 1960s, a period when its appearance was perfected and is still maintained today. And the good news is that the Baignoire name was only fixed in 1973, even though this oval-faced watch has been around at the Cartier house since 1912. A watch that combines styles from decades past!
After the global pandemic, when the retro is favored by bringing a sense of familiar nostalgia, the designs with the silhouette of the decades come back strongly. It Girl Kendall Jenner was once spotted wearing a Catier Baignoire model on her wrist while walking down the street late last year. Before Kendall, this model had captivated many It Girls of the era, from “60s French muse” Catherine Deneuve to actress Jeanne Moreau.
Back in 2023, the Cartier Baignoire line of watches is cuter than ever when mounted on precious metal bracelets. A fusion of watchmaking and jewelry – both the strengths of the Cartier house.
Cartier revealed that in the summer of 2023, three Baignoire models with small dials mounted on bracelets will be introduced to the world. They are perfect for layering with other famous Cartier bracelets, for example, the Love or Juste un Clou line, as they are made of the same material (white gold, rose gold, or primeval gold) and have the same properties. Modern minimalist look.
In mini size, Cartier also presents more traditional versions with a single leather strap and a more personal version that reflects the trendy leopard print of the French brand.
For collectors of high-end watches, Cartier also launches limited edition Baignoires. These are two Baignoire Allongée models with elongated dials, and two models encrusted with diamonds and gems like high jewelry.
Coming to the Fine Jewelry Watch line of 2023, the Baignoire watches are made with Cartier’s superior jewelry craftsmanship.
For example, the geometric faceted Baignoire Allongée model combining white gold, yellow gold, and black lacquer enamel took up to 24 months to make. To achieve the fragmented effect, Cartier artisans must work the white gold and yellow gold separately before assembling them, and then apply a thin line of lacquered enamel over it to obscure the weld.
The kaleidoscope-like model is designed with a contrasting mosaic technique using mother-of-pearl, turquoise, and onyx on a white gold background. The stone inlay process on the dial alone took up to 25 hours to complete, not to mention the work of encrusting diamonds, spinel, and tourmaline on the bezel.
The Jeweled Baignoire models encrusted with gems and diamonds are made with snow-setting, which conceals the underlying metal and maximizes the light diffraction of the jewels, thus transforming the design into a ball of light sparkles on your wrist.
