Borderlands Star Ariana Greenblatt: A Fan’s Perspective on Navigating Passionate Fandoms

Ariana Greenblatt plays Tiny Tina, a cherished character from the well-liked video game series, in the upcoming film “Borderlands”. However, this is hardly Greenblatt’s first experience in the realm of ardent fandoms. Her past roles as Young Ahsoka in the Star Wars Disney Plus series and Young Gamora in “Avengers: Infinity War” have exposed her to the intense scrutiny and high standards that accompany the adaptation of well-loved characters.

GamesRadar+ recently spoke with Greenblatt, who offered her distinct viewpoint on handling the demands of devoted fan bases. “I’ve always been drawn to fan communities,” she stated. “I’ve had interactions with Marvel and Star Wars fans, and I genuinely love them. I felt ready to enter the Borderlands universe, therefore.”

Greenblatt stresses how critical it is to recognize and value fans’ intense bond with these characters and their settings. “I understand; I’m a fan too,” she said. “I made sure to engage with the gaming community before filming, asking them what they truly love about Borderlands.”

She does, however, also recognize the difficulties of turning a video game into a full-length motion picture. According to Greenblatt, “gamers aren’t used to this longer format.” “They play the game and see these characters come and go, but now they’re watching them live in real-time for an extended period.”

In Eli Roth’s film “Borderlands,” we follow Lilith (Cate Blanchett) as she goes back to her home planet Pandora to save Tiny Tina. To save the universe from approaching destruction, she joins forces with a motley crew of characters along the road, including Krieg (Florian Munteanu), Roland (Kevin Hart), Claptrap (Jack Black), and Dr. Patricia Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis).

According to Greenblatt, striking the correct balance is essential for a successful adaption. “It’s about humanizing these characters for those who aren’t familiar with the game while still incorporating nostalgic elements for longtime fans,” she said. “Finding that common ground is crucial.”

Greenblatt appears well-suited to manage the fervent Borderlands fans given her background traversing the worlds of Marvel and Star Wars. Fans are excitedly awaiting the film’s August 9th premiere, and Greenblatt’s observations provide a comforting viewpoint on the difficulties and benefits of adapting well-loved video game characters for the big screen.
