Greetings! Just a friendly heads up that our warehouse will be taking a well-deserved break for the Lunar New Year Holiday from January 16th to January 26th, 2023. This means that any orders placed between January 9th and January 21st may take a bit longer to process than usual. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and want to thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us
Julien Dossena will be the fifth guest designer to collaborate with Jean Paul Gaultier. The two will work together on Jean Paul Gaultier’s Haute Couture collection, which will be launched in July in Paris.
Julien dossena shakes hands with jean paul gaultier to make haute couture
Although retired after the Haute Couture Autumn-Winter 2020 season and is no longer active in the fashion industry, Jean Paul Gaultier is still extremely methodical in the method of prolonging the influence of his brand name.
A few years ago, he announced that he was no longer designing ready-to-wear, but only doing haute couture. Then, as soon as he retired, he immediately announced that he would invite different designers to design for his brand. Each will take on an haute couture season, finding inspiration in the Jean Paul Gaultier legacy and resonating with their personal fashion sense. Since then, the Jean Paul Gaultier brand has begun a series of controversial collaborations.
This was a smart move that only Jean Paul Gaultier dared make. Instead of choosing to have a long-term connection with a creative director, he chose to “sign a part-time contract” with a talented designer for just one season. This will help the brand receive diversity and continuous innovation, not being fixed or dependent on a creative director. And that also means that the Jean Paul Gaultier brand will not have a regretful ending when it has to part with an empire or end any “term”.
Besides, Jean Paul Gaultier is also known as a good character when turning his catwalks into advertising opportunities for younger designers. At the same time help your brand reach younger customers. This is the method of one arrow hitting many birds!
The first name honored to be chosen is Chitose Abe (founder of Sacai). She brought spectacular outfits that showed her body control to the fall/winter 2021 runway. Following that success, the brand connected Y/Project and Diesel creative director Glenn Martens with a clothing illusions collection goes viral. Olivier Rousteing of Balmain is the third guest designer, he has blown the inspiration for the famous perfume bottle Le Male into a fashion model in the fall-winter season of 2022. And most recently, Haider Ackermann conquers the high-end catwalk. Spring-summer 2023 with a minimalist yet attractive collection.
Now in each fashion season, instead of being excited about what the fashion house will bring, people have to “sell it and doubt” who will participate in the brand. Indeed it was a calculated move and within the control of Jean Paul Gaultier.
At the beginning of March 2023, the fashion world caught Jean Paul Gaultier sitting in the front row of the Paco Rabanne Fall Winter 2023 show in Paris. Most of the fashion world has speculated that the next “main role” in the fall-winter season of 2023 may fall into the hands of the French-born designer.
As expected, Julien Dossena – creative director of Paco Rabanne, will be the next designer to devote their brains to Jean Paul Gaultier’s formidable fashion legacy. And this is also the occasion when Julien Dossena marks 10 years as creative director at Paco Rabanne house. This “talent transfer” deal is extremely easy because both the Paco Rabanne and Jean Paul Gaultier brands are owned by the Puig group.
Dossena has led Paco Rabanne since 2013. He inherited founder Paco Rabanne’s legacy to create familiar, futuristic Space Age outfits and accessories. The way he makes accessories or dresses out of plastic, chains, and metal has attracted many die-hard fans. Over the past few years, his creative thinking seems to have begun to shine brighter than ever. The proof is that the Paco Rabanne Fall Winter 2023 collection was the most talked about in Paris in the past season.
Standing in front of Jean Paul Gaultier’s all-too-strong wall, Julien Dossena reveals that he spends a lot of time researching the archives. As a guest designer, Dossena will pay homage to the fashion house’s history. The focus of the collection may be ’90s grunge, a style Gaultier embraced on the Paris catwalks of those years.
