Pasha de cartier watch history through the years

Cartier always claims that the Pasha de Cartier line of watches was born in 1985. But in reality, this model is much older than that. It all started with the friendship of Louis Cartier, the son of the founder of the brand, and the gentleman Thami El Glaoui – Pasha (ruler) of Marrakesh, a longtime customer of the brand and also a watch player. high-class.

Legend has it that in the 1930s, Thami El Glaoui asked Louis Cartier to invent a wristwatch for himself. This longtime Cartier customer wanted a watch that was waterproof so it could be used in everyday swimming (watches didn’t usually have this feature at the time), but also luxurious enough to wear. meeting.

And the story goes that Louis Cartier made a model for him on request in 1943. However, not many pictures are recorded of the work. Some sellers doubt whether this product really exists or not!

Since this one-of-a-kind product could not be confirmed, Cartier did not use the 1943 landmark as the birth date of the Pasha de Cartier line.

Almost half a century has passed since the gentleman Thami El Glaoui raised the issue of watchmaking with Louis Cartier. In 1985, inspired by their friendship, Cartier launched the Pasha de Cartier line of watches. Pasha was named after a gentleman from Marrakesh.

Designed in 1985 by Gerald Genta. This illustrious watch designer is also the creator of Patek Philippe’s Nautilus , Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak , and OMEGA’s Constellation .

With a distinctive diameter, crown connected to the dial by a chain, and entirely made of gold, the Cartier Pasha watch quickly became the legacy of the renowned French jeweler.

That original 1985 watch became the inspiration for a series of subsequent Pasha versions. From the Pasha C, the first steel watch in 1995, to the Pasha 32, a ladies’ watch in 1998. In 2005, Cartier introduced the 42mm Pasha, and in 2009 the Miss Pasha, a version mini, fun, colorful.

Pasha de Cartier is a line of watches with round faces. Inside the round dial is placed a square, creating a visual contrast. The watch face uses Arabic numerals instead of Roman numerals. Because of this special shape, this line of watches is boldly unisex. Both men and women can use this design.

Building on these fundamental design principles, Cartier continues to innovate for its iconic watch line. Maybe resize. Use different materials.
