I have never heard the term masking before, but I have never been particularly fond of labeling a child or adult as high functioning. It’s a poker face I hold up. But it gets to a point where the stress can actually cause that mask to break. If I feel that about to happen, I tend to run away. I don’t like to show my feelings and start ticcing all over the place. Do people actually get medically diagnosed with autism or just diagnose themselves or their children themselves? I worked with autistic adults for a lot of years and as autism is rarely diagnosed until a child is at least 5 there seems to be alot of people putting themselves on the spectrum, it is quite concerning tbh A beautiful madness …
