Catharsis is the second reason.

I used to have a lot of social anxiety and trouble fitting in when I was younger; you know the story, and many of you have had your own version of it. I felt extremely quirky, incredibly strange, and as if I didn’t belong anyplace. Then I changed my mind about trying to fit in and decided to flaunt my weirdness instead.

During the summer, I, like many other teenagers in the past and future, let my hair grow long. I started growing a beard. And, of course, I decided to make Hawaiian shirts my personal hallmark, rather than the boring, basic, flat-colored t-shirts of the past.
I immediately felt more at ease in social occasions. I emerged from my shell. I gained more self-assurance. I began to walk out there a little more boldly, expressing my ideas aloud and openly being who I was on the inside and out. I’ve never stopped wearing the shirts since those days, nor would I ever want to.

Third, because, well, you know what? Isn’t it true that Hawaiian shirts are fantastic? Hawaiian clothes are simply insanely amazing.
