No noise in the design language, in Subtle Le Nguyen of young designers Nguyen Nhat Viet and Le Thuy Giang still exudes the freedom to overcome barriers and old standards to move towards a new image of beauty. ELLE had a conversation with 2 designers ahead of the upcoming ELLE Fashion Show 2022 on December 17, 2022.
Subtle le nguyen: going far with “slow fashion”
The 10-year milestone marks a journey full of efforts and attachment for the Subtle Le Nguyen team when accompanied by those who have worked with Subtle since the very first days, the steps that laid the foundation of the brand. Along with that, it is also a milestone marking the maturity of the brand’s design and orientation.
The Spring/Summer 2023 collection that you performed at the ELLE Fashion Show was launched with the brand’s new name, and also the first show. How do you feel about participating in ELLE Fashion Show this time?
We feel very excited to participate in ELLE Fashion Show. This is also an opportunity for us to get closer to the fashion and beauty-loving community. Through the ELLE Fashion Show, we want to convey the message of Subtle Le Nguyen’s new direction to everyone. In this collection, we want to thank the team Subtle Le Nguyen – who has been with the brand for the past 8 years.
What’s special in the new version of Subtle Le Nguyen? In other words, how do you want to build a new image of Subtle Le Nguyen in the eyes of fashion lovers and customers?
With Subtle Le Nguyen, we want to bring a feeling of no limits or barriers in terms of gender and standards of beauty. It not only aims at the diversity of orientations but also preserves our hopes for a society with ideals of love and equality. The images of Subtle Le Nguyen in the future are not only modern but also contain ideas and nostalgia about Vietnamese history and culture.
As the first generation of Vietnam to fully inherit the peace, we realize our mission is to promote and spread the cultural beauty of the Vietnamese people, but at the same time, we want to “break” stereotypes, and “old” ideas about beauty and gender and uphold respect for differences in each individual.
With the new version of Subtle Le Nguyen, what do you expect?
In Subtle Le Nguyen’s version, we want to build a community where everyone carries out their mission together, raising their voices to convey messages of peace, equality, and encouragement. break old norms, and stereotypes about beauty and bring those new ideas into fashion.
World fashion trends are having two main features: Diversity, inclusion, and eco-sustainability. It can be seen that in this new collection, you bring an image aimed at more female shapes. So do you guys plan to follow the sustainable trend and if so, how will you do sustainable fashion?
Subtle Le Nguyen is always aiming for sustainability and environmental friendliness. Sustainability is shown in high applicability, along with time; Environmental friendliness is shown by the use of materials from natural fibers and from the “slow fashion” orientation. Subtle Le Nguyen does not apply mass production, all products are manufactured 100% by an in-house team combined with ensuring a safe and friendly working environment.
