Metaverse Fashion Week, which took place in the last days of March, did not receive much attention from fashionistas, although many big brands attended. However, another modern technology fashion event has officially “launched” – AI Fashion Week, which will be held on April 20-21, 2023 with brand new AI designers.
What’s at a fashion week that tech and fashionistas look forward to so much?
AI Fashion Week takes place in New York in front of the expectations of technology and fashion followers, especially artificial intelligence. Sponsored by Spring Studios and e-commerce retailer Revolve Group, the event showcased how AI has become a tool of the future of fashion design.
To attend AI Fashion Week, designers must submit a collection of 15-30 outfits (the deadline is April 15), which is then judged by the audience through online or in-person voting. The first AI fashion event was held, attracting more than 350 submissions, of which, 10 excellent designers made it to the second round, which took place in May.
The 3 winners will be selected based on the results of the judging panel, including Tiffany Godoy – editor-in-chief of Vogue Japan, Natalie Hazzout – head of Celine’s male model casting, Erika Wykes-Sneyd – Vice President of Three Stripes Studio at Adidas, Matthew Drinkwater – Head of Fashion Innovation at London College of Fashion, Michael Mente – CEO and Co-Founder of Revolve…
The winners will receive support from Fashion Week’s fashion-tech business incubator AI in partnership with Revolve. Candidates must meet the important requirement that the product is practical and can be manufactured. The winning designer’s collections will be produced and sold online through Revolve or Fwrd, the tech company’s luxury goods website. They will also receive support throughout the launch process, including prototyping, prototyping, as well as marketing and communications.
The special thing about AI Fashion Week is that the designers attending are not necessarily in the fashion industry. The event creates a playground for techies with rich tastes to compete. Over 60% of attendees use the Midjourney platform to create their AI creations.
Ukrainian designer, Irina Perviy, created an AI fashion collection inspired by her homeland. Images of young rice flowers, traditions, fields, and embroidery and needlework techniques appear realistically in fashion designs.
Meanwhile, designer Oyerinde created a collection titled “Haute Futur” based on the concept of high and low, capturing audiences with familiar geometric shapes and lines while looking at futuristic fabrics. He revealed that it was the experience he gained from weaving that helped him write the unique code to create the creative “data fabric” of the collection.
New fashion brands also do not miss this exciting playground. Ilona Song, the founder of the brand of the same name, submitted a collection called “Futuristic Fauna”, inspired by camellia. Nastaran Hashemi, the founder of the digital fashion platform Orbyline, brings the “Orbyline” collection to AI Fashion Week. Both use a mood board to outline basic shapes, colors, and materials. Blending techniques and coordination tools help them perfect cuts, joins, and proportions in perfect detail and add a personal touch to their outfits.
