My grandparents were quite social and the house was always filled with people, all of whom would engage delightfully with my aunt. I now have a second cousin who was born with Downs. She was also born into the “right” family! She learned to read and write and even got her driver’s license! She is involved in everything that goes on with her brothers and sister including their trips to Las Vegas, the Caribbean,
NYC.. and even “has a few” with them at the local tavern!! (Small German, Wisconsin town.. it’s how things are DONE).. Her parents died and her brother’s and sisters take turns having her live with them and she is the happiest human I know! Her brother’s and sister have done a lot to make her the shining star of the town and have educated so many people about Downs by posting videos of her working in their store! My grandparents, as well as my mom, (who took over the care of her sister when my grandparent’s died) are rolling in their graves in delight to see how love and progress can make these wonderful people’s lives as joyous and fun and loving as they can be. Granted, like I said, I don’t believe that everyone is equipped to give such lives to these individuals with sometimes difficult differences,
