Why Do I Dress in Hawaiian Shirts? New york mets major league baseball summer vacation hawaiian shirt
If there’s one thing I hear more than anything else, it’s people saying, “Wow, guy.” You’re known for wearing a lot of Hawaiian shirts.”
This is a habit I’ve had for the most of my life, whether thankfully or regrettably. My proclivity for wearing bright and colorful clothes appears to be a subject of fascination, as it frequently evokes both good and negative – but always humorous – responses. Many people have asked why I wear them: if there’s a deeper reason, if there’s a cause, if there’s a role, if I’ve lost a lifelong bet, and so on. You get my drift.
Actually, there is a deeper reason for this. Quite a few, in fact. So, what’s the deal? Well…
Sentimental reasons are the first reason.
My father used to wear Hawaiian shirts a lot when I was a youngster. He liked the way they looked and felt, and like most sons, I liked the thought of looking and feeling like him, so I adopted the habit. He died when I was 17, and though I was already wearing Hawaiian shirts at the time, they took on new meaning for me following his passing. Keeping them on felt like a way of honoring his legacy and paying tribute to who he was.
Catharsis is the second reason.
I used to have a lot of social anxiety and trouble fitting in when I was younger; you know the story, and many of you have had your own version of it. Anyway, it all came to a climax in high school, and all I wanted to do at the time was fade into the background. I wished to appear normal. Quiet. Nondescript. I felt extremely quirky, incredibly strange, and as if I didn’t belong anyplace. Then I changed my mind about trying to fit in and decided to flaunt my weirdness instead.
During the summer, I, like many other teenagers in the past and future, let my hair grow long. I started growing a beard. And, of course, I decided to make Hawaiian shirts my personal hallmark, rather than the boring, basic, flat-colored t-shirts of the past.
I immediately felt more at ease in social occasions. I emerged from my shell. I gained more self-assurance. I began to walk out there a little more boldly, expressing my ideas aloud and openly being who I was on the inside and out. I’ve never stopped wearing the shirts since those days, nor would I ever want to.
Third, because, well, you know what? Isn’t it true that Hawaiian shirts are fantastic? Hawaiian clothes are simply insanely amazing.
Seriously. It’s not always easy to turn yourself into a walking billboard for a Caribbean holiday provider by wearing something so bright and vivid every day. Hawaiian shirts, on the other hand, are lively and pleasurable to wear, and the individuals who wear them make excellent company. Comfortable, iconic, and ageless, a nice aloha shirt is a must-have. They look and feel fantastic. Why wouldn’t I want to put these on? In the end, this is probably what it comes down to: I just enjoy Hawaiian shirts – New york mets major league baseball summer vacation hawaiian shirt
They have a nice look and feel to them. I appreciate how they automatically instill trust in a person, a sense that no matter how serious they are, they know how to have fun and see the good in things, at least on some level. I’ve yet to encounter a terrible guy dressed in a Hawaiian shirt, and I hope I never do.
