There is a lot of pressure on Donatella Versace for the Fall 2023 show, especially since it won’t be held in Milan – the home of the fashion house. Incidentally, Los Angeles has all the characteristics of the Versace brand. While all of today’s major labels boast a roster of well-known names as ambassadors and faces, there’s an innate connection between Versace and celebs that makes it not competed by any other brand’s all-star campaigns. That’s partly because Versace included the stars in their vision from the start when Gianni Versace was responsible for dressing Madonna, Prince, and Elton John in the 1980s.

The energy, glamor, and power of Hollywood – these are the reference points for the Versace Fall/Winter 2023 collection. From the contrast between the glitz of the Golden Age and the contemporary attitude, Donatella Versace brings to the point of Classic luxury design bold Versace, while still embracing the modern spirit.

“I wanted to go back to the cut and shape of the clothes, to focus on the perfect black dress, the perfect black suit.”– Donatella expressed about her “brainchild”. And Gigi Hadid opened the show in an outfit that reflected those elegant proportions. A powerful black suit with a slit peplum shirt gives a mixed feeling of a CEO and a celebrity.

Then she reappeared in a design that combined the greatest inspirations of the two eras: a low-waist dress with a satin evening skirt, tulle corset, and Versace ’95 Medusa belt. It’s a mix of Linda Evangelista’s and Grace Kelly’s inspiration – a trendy elegance. Next, “black leopard” Naomi Campbell walked in a look inspired by the brand’s 95th collection – a black tube dress with a chest covered with pearls and hand-embroidered beads. After many seasons of fashion experimenting with the spirit of streetwear, the Italian fashion house has chosen to return to its “roots”: high-end tailoring techniques with luxurious designs, and delicate lines. Dresses with pleated busts, plunging necklines, and rounded shoulders are all references to Atelier Versace’s Spring/Summer 1995 collection. Versace’s signature straight shoulder seam enhances the hourglass figure.

Boxy pleated A-line skirts and dresses show professional tailoring skills. The little black dress was transformed for a richer look, each with the subtle addition of shoulder padding, a peplum top, buttons, and a belt featuring the Medusa logo. And in particular, there is no shortage of gorgeous outfits for the big occasion: luxurious gowns, vests embellished with matching culottes, faux fur flats…

The color palette of the collection goes from classic elegance to trendy modern, with black, caramel, and chocolate brown as the main colors – three colors that are very much in keeping with Versace’s creative spirit. Other shades of gray, apricot yellow, ocher, turquoise blue, and pink appear vibrant, bringing out the glitzy modern Hollywood spirit.
