This time, Maison Margiela decided to collaborate with the Korean brand Gentle Monster for a collection of sunglasses. Through this special collection, Gentle Monster also becomes Maison Margiela’s second sunglasses partner, after the Italian brand Mykita.
The Maison Margiela x Gentle Monster collection includes 11 designs, including sunglasses and frames that can be fitted with lenses for nearsighted/astigmatic people. Designed by the Creative Director of French haute couture house John Galliano and popular Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster, the collection features gender-focused eyewear designs founded on the concepts developed in a craft workshop and a common belief in experimental craftsmanship.
The Maison Margiela’s signature elements, such as the black mask, unfinished stitching, and fabric surfaces, are reinterpreted from Gentle Monster’s unique aesthetic point of view. The combination of the two brands creates a new “Créature” expressed through artist Katerina Jebb’s unique image campaign with resolution scrambling.
To celebrate this partnership, the Maison Margiela x Gentle Monster pop-up event will be held in seven cities around the world: New York, Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Singapore, and London. This highly-anticipated collaboration will be released on February 28 worldwide and will be available at Gentle Monster and Maison Margiela online/offline stores as well as select retailers worldwide. bridge.
